Tooth Crowns: An Overview

Our tooth crowns are typically completed in two office visits. During your initial visit, Dr. Diangani will remove all old filling material and any cavities from your tooth while preparing your tooth for the dental crown. We will then place a temporary tooth crown on your tooth.

In between your two visits, we will send a mold of your tooth to a lab where your dental crown will be expertly constructed and returned in about 2-3 weeks.

Once the tooth mold is returned to us, we will then seal the tooth crown mold with permanent cement while numbing the area for optimal comfort during the procedure.

FIXING TOOTH DAMAGE

WHAT IS A DENTAL CROWN?

Tooth crowns are the best option for you if your tooth is severely damaged from tooth decay, injuries, or over usage. Your teeth can lose their natural shape and size over time; however, tooth crowns are the modern solution to this problem.

Dental crowns are designed to be “caps” that are placed over your tooth. In essence, it is a literal capping for your tooth to protect it from any further damage. The crown works to restore the tooth’s shape, size, appearance, and strength.

It is essential that if you have any cavities to get them removed, and then have a tooth filling supplemented to stop any future decay spread; however, if your tooth is beyond repair from a tooth filling, then a dental crown is your best solution.

Tooth crowns are a safe and effective alternative to save the longevity of your natural teeth, while giving you a better and more appealing smile.

WHY ARE TOOTH CROWNS NEEDED?

In most cases, a tooth crown is needed when a filling is not feasible for your teeth. In essence, the damage is beyond simply filling your tooth with resin. By providing a “cap” for your tooth, it allows your tooth to regain its strength while being protected by the dental crown.

You may need a tooth crown for a variety of reasons including:

  • Protecting a weak tooth
  • Holding a dental bridge in place
  • Covering a dental implant
  • Protecting a root canal
  • Correcting the look of a misshapen or discolored tooth
  • Providing tooth longevity

If you believe you may be in need of a tooth crown, are experiencing tooth pain, or notice any misshapen teeth, schedule an appointment with us today so we can get you the dream smile you deserve!

A SECRET SOLUTION FOR ALL

WHO NEEDS TOOTH CROWNS?

Dental crowns are best fit for those with misshapen teeth, extensive tooth pain from a root canal, those with weak teeth, or individuals wanting to protect a weak tooth. However, in most instances dental crowns are given to those with extensive damage done to their teeth. It is recommended that you visit with us to discuss your options.

Dental crowns are designed to last anywhere from five to fifteen years, Depending on the “wear and tear” of your crown will depend how long it will last. By avoiding grinding or clenching your teeth, chewing ice, biting your fingernails, and using your teeth to open packaging, you can make your tooth crowns last longer.

Regardless of your circumstance, we recommend having your mouth examined if you have any concern regarding your dental health and your teeth, are currently experiencing tooth pain, or are concerned with the possibility of a cavity.
